November 13-21 2021 marks the annual week for hunger and homelessness awareness. During this week, put in extra effort to volunteer, donate, and educate in order to support people facing hunger or homelessness. Or, look below for additional ways to help fight hunger this week:
- Donate food to a food bank
- Volunteer at a food pantry or soup kitchen
- Make a monetary donation to a local homeless shelter or food pantry
- Make meal packs with water, granola bars, fruit cups, etc. to hand out to homeless people on the streets in your city
- Volunteer at a local homeless shelter (or donate items such as blankets, coats, tents, clothing, etc)
- Instead of throwing out food, make an effort to either eat it or donate it before it goes bad
- Host a fundraiser for a local nonprofit
- Hold a food drive
- Write to your state’s congressperson/representative and ask them to increase their support of initiatives that provide aid to those in need (i.e. programs such as SNAP and other food programs)
- Share posts on social media that raise awareness for hunger and homelessness in America (make sure to wear orange – the national color for food insecurity – and include hashtags such as #hungerawareness, #endhunger, and #hungerawarenessweek)
