About Food Allergy Allies:

Food Allergy Allies is a registered 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization formed in 2021 by Blythe Bath. Based in Houston, we partner with local food pantries in order to provide food allergy and celiac friendly foods to impoverished communities. With our help, food pantries are now able to stock their shelves with nonperishable food items that are free from dairy, eggs, peanuts, gluten, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, wheat, soy, and/or sesame. Our Story:

Hi! My name is Blythe Bath, and I am the founder of Food Allergy Allies. Food Allergy Allies is a nonprofit organization based in Houston, Texas, that provides food allergy friendly foods to local food pantries. I grew up with multiple food allergies to dairy, eggs, and nuts, so I have always been attuned to the needs of the food allergy community. As I became more involved in different philanthropies in Houston, I saw many programs aimed at solving food insecurity. However, they all had one flaw in common: they didn’t provide enough resources for people facing dietary restrictions. With this in mind, I launched my own nonprofit to bring allergy-friendly food to people in need and to educate others about the intersectionality between food allergies and food insecurity.

Our Mission:

Our mission is to provide resources for people who face both food insecurity and dietary restrictions.

Why Support Us?

Consider the following statistics:

More than 46 million Americans rely on food pantries or meal programs to feed themselves.

85 million Americans are impacted by food allergies and intolerances combined

It doesn’t take a genius to do the math- there’s bound to be an overlap between Americans that suffer from food insecurity and those that experience food allergies. While food pantries and other similar services go above and beyond to provide assistance to their clients, they are often unable to help individuals in need who have food allergies or other dietary restrictions. Ironically, individuals with dietary restrictions are arguably more in need than other people facing food insecurity due to fact that allergy-free alternatives tend to be much pricier than regular food items. For example, consider bread. At most grocery stores, you can find a loaf of regular sandwich bread for less than three dollars. Contrastingly, one loaf of gluten free bread will likely cost you ten dollars if you’re lucky, or over 20 dollars if you’re not. This is where Food Allergy Allies comes in. While other food-aid services focus on collecting and distributing staple food items such as milk, peanut butter, and bread, Food Allergy Allies focuses solely on allergy-friendly alternatives such as coconut milk, sunflower seed butter, and gluten free bread. By addressing the needs of families who struggle to accommodate dietary restrictions on top of food insecurity, we hope to make safe eating possible for EVERYONE.
